Neuroimaging measures to design novel biomarkers for neurodegenerative diseases Lead Investigator: Mirza Faisal Beg Institution : Simon Fraser University E-Mail : mfbeg@sfu.ca Proposal ID : 1030 Proposal Description: The main goal of the research are to validate and compare the core-biomarkers of 1) structural atrophy, 2) FDG-PET hypometabolism, 3) cerebral amyloid-deposition and 4) CSF pathology for their utility in clinical diagnosis. A second goal is to develop novel biomarkers using tools from machine/deep learning and assess their utility in early detection of neurodegenerative diseases and differential diagnosis between different diseases such as AD, FTD and DLB. We hypothesize that automated multimodal and multiscale biomarkers will offer better performance than unimodal uniscale biomarkers, and the third goal is to assess biomarker combinations and fusion strategies for prediction of future conversion as well as differential diagnosis.
